Dresser to Kitchen Island

I have an eat-in kitchen but I have no table and very limited storage.  In order to create more storage and an eating place, I decided to create an island for my kitchen.  I found a dresser on Craigslist for $40.

I replaced the top of the dresser with 4, 2 x 10 x 35 pine planks that are butt joined with screws diagonally through the wood, joining the wood.  Then I coated the pine with lacquer after staining the wood. I also added L-brackets to help support the new top.  The dresser was not quite as high as the counter top, so feet were added to raise up the dresser.

Tip: When painting laminate, sand it first and make sure each coat is completely cured before you put the second coat on it.
